Dalits in India v/s India in world

India got independence in 1947 after exploitation by Britisher for long 200 years. On the other hand with the formal adaptation of constitution, Dalits got their rights of human dignity, equality first time after thousand years of suppression by forward castes.

As far as India is concerned during British rule, Indian economy became deplorable and suppressed. Britishers had exploited India for their self development. Indian domestic Industries, agriculture, education system etc were destroyed by Britishers. Further as per the estimation of various Indian economists most population in India lived in poverty during British rule.

In 1947, though India got independence but with pathetic conditions of every sector like education, health, agriculture, industries etc .Thus India need to reestablish itself from the beginning by its own.

Similarly Dalits were also exploited, abused, denied human rights like access of education, wealth, religious temples, common tanks of water etc .Further before introduction of constitution Dalits did not had rights to own property; they had to do menial works for upper caste; they could not change their occupation, there was strict ban over inter caste marriage etc. Even Dalits were treated as untouchables and their shadow could also impure the upper caste people. Overall it could be said that Dalits did not have any dignified life and human rights forget about equality on the of it forward caste people would prefer or bear the touch of animals rather then Dalit as they were treated as untouchables.

Thus it could also said that like India as talked above Dalits has to reincarnate, rebuild themselves from the beginning that is also after the thousand years of exploitation or denial of human rights. Here the difference between both are that of duration, form and extremeness of exploitation while commonality is that both has to reestablish themselves by their own. India didn’t get required helping hands of real cooperation from developed colonial countries and similarly Dalits did not get the required helping hand with true heart from forward caste people.

What India had required from developed countries at the time of independence and what had India been given?(same analogy for Dalit in India)

It was the fact that India was ruined economically as well as socially by the Britishers for their greed. Thus after independence, India needs huge line of credit along with cooperative extended hands of developed colonial countries for development of industries, education system, health system, social conditions, technology etc. Instead of it what developed countries had given was only verbally assurance and comment like “ Now India is a independent country so it should develop by its own.Now no body stop or restrict India to develop or exploit It by colonization. “. How far is it justifiable that first you ruined the country economically as well as socially then left the country to develop by its own without proper helping hands with true heart.

The same analogy applied to Dalits in India, as compare to India more intense and cruel exploitation of Dalits have been done by upper caste people in India. At the time of independence,Dalits were facing the issue of poverty, untouchability, illiteracy, landlessness, hunger etc. They are wholly dependent on the upper caste Hindus for their livelihood. Thus at that time, Dalits need compassion from upper caste like as brother of the family who could share the fight for real development for all. Dalits need economic independent, good health, education, proper livelihood, self esteem, social equality, feeling of fraternity from others, self respect, dignity etc. While, what have they been given false assurance, hate, taunting, suppression, subjugation, and so called reservation in higher education and jobs while the basic social and economic facilities are denied to become able and get the benefit of reservation.   .

Further though World Bank, IMF and UN have initiated policies and programs for developing countries,such initiatives have never get cooperation from developed countries with right sprite and true heart.similarly though Indian government has started many of programs for Dalits empowerment since independence, the main implementer of these programs are forward caste people, who didn’t implement these schemes and policies with right sprite and true heart. Over all it could be said that Dalits are left by the upper caste people to develop by their own.Same like developed countries forward castes say that you have provided your rights, freedom, reservation and many schemes and programs;Now who is stopping you to become develop?.While the fact that the Dalit atrocities, poverty, hunger, landlessness are still prevailing in India proves that Dalits did not get support as brother from upper caste people today also.

Thus still today after the 70 years of independence , if the basis of current argument of India at world platform like WTO, IMF, climate change, UN etc about the compensation, subsidies,  technology transfer, liberal rules in trade, labor, IPR , special protection rules for developing countries(that is nothing of different form of reservation at world level) is correct than it is also correct that by seeing the historical and current context Dalits still need reservation not only in government sector but also in private sector along with the support of others.

At world platforms when India said that if developed countries supported India and other developing countries with right sprite and true heart then India would also become developed earlier and would not demand for such reservations. However It is the developed world, which has not extended its hand like a brother to support us that’s why we are demanding such things and taking so much time to become developed and compete in open market. Further the cause behind such delay is that India alone has to develop industrial, agriculture, education, health, service, research work, social development etc without proper support from colonial countries.

The same analogy is also true about Dalits demands, if forward caste people supported Dalits in right sprite with true heart like a brother than Dalits would also become developed earlier and stand up together with their brother equally. However like developed world forward caste people hadn’t extended their hands that’s why Dalits are taking time to become developed and compete at equal platform. And the reason behind is the same as above that Dalits has to do things like social empowerment, develop social capital, uniting thousands of caste in lower order, forcing government to implement policies and program in right sprite, research for development etc by their own without required support from forward castes.
